Having included some film reviews, even though I no longer make films, it seemed appropriate to add a couple of examples of paintings which I also no longer create. My paintings were often mistaken for prints, and that was down to the fact that I would try to emulate effects that would normally only be achievable via printing techniques, but by using gouache and inks and a paintbrush. My techniques necessitated the use of a wonderful fine-line board, beloved of illustrators and airbrush artists, known as 'CS10'. When computer graphics programmes took over, the materials that had been used for decades, particularly by airbrush artists, simply went out of production. I relied on CS10 because its surface could withstand any amount of abuse (including pan scourers!) which I would take advantage of to, for example, distress an area of paint. The last painting that I worked on was in 2010 when I tried to use replacement materials, but it was very nearly a disaster with the potential for weeks of work to be ruined by inferior products at any moment. It became a stressful chore rather than a pleasure. Anyway, here are two examples of the kind of paintings I used to create.
